But even in recent months O Rey 's condition had created apprehension. In December 2021 he was hospitalized again due to colon cancer which had been diagnosed in September of the same year. In January then, fortunately, Pele was able to go home, even if he wasn't fully back in shape yet. The warmth and closeness of his family were an inevitable relief for Pele who on several occasions personally wanted to reassure everyone with messages through social media.
