Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel keen on England job as Gareth Southgate prepares to make decision over future with Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers and Eddie Howe also likely to be considered by FA

Thomas Tuchel is keen to take charge of England should Gareth Southgate decide to step down from his position.

The German head coach is currently a free agent after being sacked from his role as Chelsea boss back in September.

Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers and Eddie Howe are also named as men who could come into the frame, according to The Sun.

With Chelsea players such as Mason Mount, Reece James, Conor Gallagher, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell in the set-up, Tuchel could be tempted by the position if it came available.

The FA are keen to keep hold of Southgate who has a contract until the summer of 2024, however it remains to be seen if he’ll stay on.

The dust is still settling following England’s World Cup exit at the hands of France on Saturday night and speaking after the match, Southgate says that he’ll take time to consider his plans.

He said: “After every tournament we’ve sat down and reviewed and reflected.

“So we need a bit of time to make sure everyone makes the right decisions.

“Whenever I’ve finished these tournaments I’ve needed time to make the correct decisions because emotionally you go through so many different feelings.

“The energy it takes through these tournaments is enormous.

“I want to make the right decisions, whatever that is, for the team, for England, for the FA.

“I think it’s right to take a bit of time to do that because I know in the past how my feelings have fluctuated in the immediate aftermath of tournaments.”
