The skate academy, the passion for Rubik's cubes and the trial against #Fluminense: the story of #GustavoScarpa, the new signing of the @NFFC

Gustavo Scarpa: direct flight Sao Paulo-Nottingham. The second life as an influencer, Kafka and the skate

Gustavo Scarpa is Nottingham Forest's 23rd signing of the season. The Youtube channel, the Skateboard Academy and Dostoevsky: his story

"To understand intelligently, intelligence is not enough" . To play football, talent alone is not enough. This is how Guastavo Scarpa must have paraphrased one of the sentences from his favorite novel, Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky . In fact, the Brazilian born in '94 has managed to create his own identity even off the pitch. Books, social networks and Rubik's cubes : from Brazil he brought everything to England . The midfielder is Nottingham Forest 's 23rd signing of the season He has already been announced and is training with the team, but he can't play until January (except in a friendly), when his contract with Palmeiras expires .

The mustache to be uglier and the trial against Fluminense

You know the stereotype of the Brazilian player? Exuberant and easy to fall into temptation? Forget it . Gustavo Scarpa is the exact opposite. Raised in Hortolandia, in the São Paulo region, he toured the best nurseries in Brazil . Guarani, Santos, Paulinia and Desportivo Brasil. The first big transfer, however, is to Fluminense , at 18 years old. But he doesn't want to give in to the attractions of the big city, Rio de Janeiro . So as soon as he arrives he decides to grow a mustache to be uglier .

A strange tactic. But looking at the results it works. After a season on loan at Red Bull Bragantino (at the time Red Bull Brasil), he returns to Flu. He becomes a pillar of the team and even earns a call from Tite for the senior national team. He remains at Fluminense from 2014 (in between even a season together with Richarlison ) to 2018, the year in which he leaves to return to his home in San Paolo. Experience in Rio which, however, had ended with a process to void his contract following non-payment of salaries.

Gustavo Scarpa and the Qatar dream one step away

This time he returns to his region with the Palmeiras shirt . In just 4 years with Verdao he wrote history: two Copa Libertadores, two Brazilian championships and a Recopa Sudamericana . Always as a protagonist together with the various Arthur Cabral (now at Fiorentina), Felipe Melo and the starlet Endrick . In Brazil there was also talk of his possible call-up to the World Cup in Qatar , but then it was Everton Ribeiro who came out on top.

Kafka, the skateboard and the electric guitar

He had entered the hearts of the fans. His passion for Rubik's cube had led the club to produce and sell customized cubes just for him in its store. Before leaving Brazil, Palmeiras had tried to offer him a contract with even higher sums than Nottingham's . But it wasn't about the money. Gustavo Scarpa wanted England, the land of Shakespeare, streetwear and the punk era. Literature, "street" culture and rock: the Brazilian has managed to connect three very distant worlds . On Instagram he has opened a column where he reviews the books he reads: from Kafka to Victor Hugo .

And he has never hidden his passion for skateboarding . In São Paulo you have carried out various initiatives to bring children closer to this sport and you have also opened an academy for young skaters . It didn't take long for you to get recognized in England as well. Within days of his arrival, people from Nottingham found him in the center of the city trying out skate tricks. All documented on his Youtube channel with over 200 thousand subscribers, Canal do Scarpinha .

Guitar and drums are his favorite instruments. His performance posted on Palmeiras social networks in 2018 is memorable: Scarpa, an electric guitar and the club's anthem played on World Rock Day .

England are ready to be surprised by Gustavo Scarpa .
