Raheem Sterling vows he won’t return to World Cup in Qatar ahead of France clash unless family are 100 per cent safe
England star Raheem Sterling has revealed he will only return to the World Cup in Qatar if his family are ‘safe’.
The Chelsea forward’s mansion was raided by a gang, who managed to force their way inside and steal £300,000 worth of watches and jewellery.
Sterling is understood to be the fourth star of the west London club who has been hit by the gang in recent months.
The raid is understood to have taken place less than 24 hours before England’s last-16 clash against Senegal.
Sterling has since left the England camp and returned to London to be with his family.
The 27-year-old, though, could return for the Three Lions’ World Cup quarter-final clash against France on Saturday.
But that will only be the case should his family be safe.
A source told The Sun: “Raheem has told everyone, ‘There is no way I’m going anywhere unless I’m 100 per cent sure that my family can be kept safe’. He is security conscious and part of the reason they moved into the property was that it is on a very exclusive estate, with regular security patrols.
“Despite this, he has still managed to be targeted, which is very upsetting for Raheem and Paige. They have just moved back to London and want to feel safe.”
Sterling and his family moved into his home in Oxshott, Surrey, after the Blues secured his services in a £47.5million deal from Manchester City in the summer.
His partner Paige is believed to have returned to the UK from Qatar with their young children, after England progressed from the group stages.
Sterling has met with the police, who are currently carrying out an investigation, but no arrests have been as yet.
