Modric: "I told you to watch out for Croatia"

Luka Modric spoke about the progress of his Croatia and Argentina, next opponent in the semifinals
The Qatar 2022 World Cup is almost over with the semi-finals scheduled between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Among the protagonists there is also Luka Modric 's Croatia , which after reaching the final in 2018, wants to repeat itself also in the current edition and will play the semifinal against Argentina. The Real Madrid midfielder, a strong point both in his club and in the Croatian national team, spoke to the microphones of RTVE.

Croatia, Modric: "Nobody considers us, but that's okay"

Modric began by talking about Croatia's journey to the World Cup : "It's impressive to be in the semifinals again at the World Cup, what this team is doing is something incredible. As we are a small country, nobody takes us into consideration, but there are no problems: we are happy that the others are the favorites and we are not".

Modric then revealed a curious anecdote prior to the World Cup: "Before I went to the World Cup, we talked about it a lot in the Real Madrid locker room and I said 'watch out for Croatia'. I had seen a very valid, mature team with young players who brought quality and energy".

"Morocco tough for everyone, we'll have a hard time stopping Leo"

Modric also spoke about Morocco , a team against which Croatia drew in their debut: "It was our first match against Morocco. We didn't win and everyone in Croatia started talking and criticizing... and look where they are now they too. I immediately perceived that they were complicated to face and that they would be a tough opponent for everyone".

Finally, a brief digression on Argentina , Croatia's next opponent: "Argentina is a great team, it's not just Messi. Obviously Leo is their best player, and we will have a lot of difficulty stopping him, but we will prepare ourselves and give our best. We want to have the best match of our lives in the tournament. I hope it's enough to go to the final."
