Arsenal and West Ham disallowed goals against Manchester United and Chelsea among six incorrect Premier League VAR decisions this season, say independent panel


Six interventions from VAR in the Premier League so far this season have been deemed incorrect, according to reports.

Each weekend, a panel consisting of three former players and a representative from both the FA and PGMOL assess key incidents.

So far this season, a total of 48 interventions have been made by VAR, with ESPN reporting that six key events in particular have been highlighted.

One of the most debated ones is the decision to disallow Gabriel Martinelli’s opener for Arsenal against Manchester United.

It was ruled out for a foul by Martin Odegaard on Christian Eriksen in the buildup, with United going on to win 3-1.

Another controversial call was the disallowing of Maxwel Cornet’s late equaliser for West Ham at Chelsea.

Jarrod Bowen was judged to have fouled goalkeeper Edouard Mendy just before the goal, and the Hammers subsequently lost.

Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne was ruled to have handled in the box, with Wilfried Zaha then netting his rebounded penalty to help Crystal Palace win.

Villa felt hard done by once again, with Douglas Luiz being sent off against Fulham for alleged violent conduct on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Amongst the others is Brentford’s penalty at Nottingham Forest, scored by Bryan Mbeumo after Yoane Wissa was believed to have been brought down by Dean Henderson.

As well as this, Tyrick Mitchell’s own goal for Palace against Newcastle was ruled out for a foul on Vicente Guaita by Joe Willock just before.
