Netherlands star Memphis Depay copies NFL craze and does wide receiver Antonio Brown’s ‘Put That S*** On’ dance after goal against USA in World Cup last-16 victory
Memphis Depay sent social media into meltdown with his celebration after firing the Netherlands into the lead against USA in their 3-1 victory.
The Barcelona striker, who has struggled for form this season, broke the deadlock in the tenth minute in the World Cup last-16 clash.
Former Manchester United forward Depay was picked out by Denzel Dumfries unmarked just inside the box.
And the 28-year-old curled the ball beautifully home into the far corner with a first-time finish beyond the outstretched arms of Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner.
He then appeared to pull out the ‘Put That S*** On’ dance – made famous by NFL icon Antonio Brown.
Wide receiver Brown, who is a free agent after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January, showcased his new move in the summer.
Since then, a number of active players including Charles Pickens and Travis Kelce have decided to re-enact the dance which has become a craze in the NFL.
And now Depay has joined in on the act on the finger-pointing dance, with social media left stunned.
Not only because Brown, 34, has an arrest warrant on him in Tampa due to a domestic battery incident involving a woman.
Commenting on Depay, one Twitter user said: “Memphis Depay hitting the Antonio Brown celebration is WILD PROBLEMATIC.”
Another posted: “Memphis Depay did the Antonio Brown put that shit on celebration on USA absolute s***housery.”
A third added: “Not Depay doing the Antonio Brown dance.”
This supporter then said: “Wonderful that Depay did Antonio Brown’s little step in the World Cup.”
Meanwhile another simply stated: “High level trolling.”
talkSPORT’s Dean Ashton instead praised Depay for his great strike.
Speaking on commentary, he remarked: “He steps one step inside the 18-yard box and he whips it across Turner into the far corner.
“That was just a very, very good counter attack.”
Before adding: “That wasn’t the finish of someone lacking any confidence.”
Depay has been limited to just two LaLiga appearances this season having suffered from thigh problems.
Daley Blind added a second goal just before half-time, before Haki Wright halved the deficit in the 76th minute.
But Denzel Dumfries secured passage into the quarter-final after volleyine hiome in the 81st minute.
