Man United have missed out on Cody Gakpo, so who will they bring in instead? #MUFC

WISH LIST

Dusan Vlahovic, Goncalo Ramos and Joao Felix amongst forwards linked with Manchester United transfer, as Red Devils miss out on Cody Gakpo to rivals Liverpool

Manchester United have a number of alternative strikers they could bring in this January after missing out on PSV star Cody Gakpo.

The 23-year-old had been monitored by the Red Devils and hoped to bring him in this January, but the forward is now set to sign for their rivals Liverpool for £37million.

The news of Gakpo heading for Anfield isn’t the Christmas present Man United manager Erik ten Hag would have been hoping for, especially following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Marcus Rashford and Cristian Eriksen banished Man United’s immediate goalscoring worries in the Carabao Cup against Burnley, with the pair both finding the net to send them through to the quarter-finals.

However, Ten Hag will likely be pushing to get his side – who currently sit fifth in the Premier League table – to invest in a new target man when the transfer window re-opens.

Aside from wanting to push on in the Carabao Cup, the Red Devils will be eyeing a return to Champions League, with them playing in the Europa League this season.

And they’ve already been linked with a number of alternatives ahead of the transfer window next month.

So who could Man United bring in now that Gakpo is off the market?

Dusan Vlahovic

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is one of a number of possible Gakpo alternatives, with the Red Devils linked with him since last month.

The Old Lady are currently narrowly hanging on to a Champions League spot in Serie A and it’s understood Man United are hoping their struggles this season will push the Serbia international – who has ironically wearing Ronaldo’s No. 7 shirt at Juve – towards the exit.

Not to mention the off-the-field drama that’s going on at the Allianz Stadium.

However the Red Devils will have to fight off interest from Chelsea and Arsenal for the star who has scored 16 goals from 36 games since January, with their London-based Premier League rivals also in search of a new centre-forward.

Goncalo Ramos

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos is also on Man United’s list.
The youngster made a name for himself at the World Cup, replacing Portugal icon Ronaldo and scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland whilst his captain sat on the bench.
It’s understandable, then, that Man United could see Ramos as the perfect replacement for Ronaldo at Old Trafford, too.
The Portuguese star has recorded 15 goals and six assists in 22 games for his club this season.
Joao Felix

Another striker tipped with a move to Old Trafford this January is Ramos’ Portugal teammate and Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix, who is currently struggling under Diego Simeone in LaLiga.

The 23-year-old has scored just four times this campaign, but his numbers last season and his goal at the World Cup prove he’d be a good fit at Old Trafford.

Felix netted ten times for Atleti in 2021/22, with one goal coming in the Champions League, proving he’s the type of player Man United will need in their bid to play against Europe’s best once more.

But Man United will again need to fight off competition from Chelsea – who want him on loan – and Arsenal.

Youssoufa Moukoko

After making his debut for Borussia Dortmund at the age of 16 in 2020, Moukoko has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the Bundesliga.
The 18-year-old has stepped up to help replace Sebastien Haller and now-Manchester City star Erling Haaland, with 11 goals in 44 games.
The teenager is out of contract at the end of this season, though, so it’s likely Dortmund will be keen to get some money by selling their striker, rather than risk letting him go for free.
It’s also understood he’s on Chelsea’s wish list, too.
Memphis Depay
At 28 years old, Gakpo’s Netherlands teammate Depay is older than the rest of Man United’s potential targets and has, of course, been a Red Devil before.
The Dutch star hasn’t had much game time at Barcelona since his move from Lyon, with injuries and the arrivals of Robert Lewandowksi and Raphinha leading to him playing just three times this season.
But after scoring his country’s opening goal against the USA in the 2022 World Cup last-16 and his strong spell with Lyon, a return to Old Trafford could be a good move for both parties.
Not to mention his contract with Barca expires in the summer, too, so he’d likely be available on the cheap.
