Liverpool have 'most dominant' player at World Cup as duel stats revealed #LFC
Ibrahima Konate tops list of duel winners at World Cup as France and Liverpool defender proves his dominance on the big stage
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is the most dominant player at the World Cup, the stats would suggest.
The Frenchman has been in great form for Les Bleus in their attempts to become the first nation to retain the trophy since Brazil in 1962.
Despite making just two appearances at senior level prior to the tournament, Konate has featured in all three group games in Qatar and has done his hopes of a starting place against Poland on Sunday no harm with a string of fine displays.
Of the 214 players to contest at least 15 duels at the World Cup, Konate comes out on top with a win rate of 95.5 per cent.
The defender featured in France’s 1-0 defeat against Tunisia in their final Group D clash but that didn’t stop Konate posting a host of impressive numbers.
Konate registered 11 tackles against Tunisia and in doing so, he became the first defender to chalk up over ten tackles at the 2022 World Cup.
He has also made more successful tackles than any other player in Group D and boasts a 100 per cent success rate whilst not being dribbled past or committing a single foul.
The Frenchman is showing exactly why Liverpool paid RB Leipzig £36million in 2021 and at just 23-years-old, Konate is likely to have his best years ahead of him.
He could find himself up against Liverpool teammates Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in a potential quarter-final clash with England.
Should Konate and France get past Poland and England beat Senegal then a mouth-watering showdown between the two nations would take place on December 10.
Listen to France vs Poland (3pm kick-off) and England vs Senegal (7pm kick-off) this Sunday, live on talkSPORT.
