‘Argentina, I love you’ – Lionel Messi sends message to fans amid plans for his face to appear on Argentinian bank note to commemorate World Cup win
Lionel Messi could have his face all over Argentina with the football star set to be the face of a new bank note.
According to El Financiero, officials at the South American country’s financial governing body are looking to commemorate their historic World Cup victory.
With Messi famous for wearing the number 10 jersey, it’s tipped that he could be the face of the 1000 pesos note, equivalent to just under £5.
It’s also suggested that on the back of the note it will say ‘La Scaloneta’ – the nickname of Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni.
This comes after Argentina’s Central Bank introduced commercial coins to commemorate the country’s first World Cup victory back in 1978, something that they’re looking to emulate for the present day team as they continue their celebrations.
Messi and his Argentina have been enjoying a heck of a reception in their homeland as they celebrated their victory over France on Sunday.
As you’d expect, the 35-year-old has been the star attraction after cementing his status as one of the greatest players of all time following his instrumental role in the victory over France in Qatar.
Lapping up the adoration of the Argentine public, Messi took to social media to share a series of photos with a heartfelt message, which read: “Don’t try to figure it out.
Argentina, through the good and the bad, TE AMO,” which translates to ‘I love you’.
