Kylian Mbappe gets chance to ‘destroy’ Achraf Hakimi, who vowed to kick Paris Saint-Germain teammate in funny exchange before France face Morocco in World Cup semi-final
Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi will put their friendship aside when France take on Morocco in the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.
The Paris Saint-Germain duo are aiming to help their respective countries to the final of the competition in Qatar, which takes place on Sunday.
Mbappe has netted five goals and contributed two assists at this World Cup, while Hakimi has been key in helping Morocco concede only 10 shots on target.
And both will try to honour a promise they made when they go head-to-head at Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday.
“After we play against Morocco, I have to destroy my friend,” Mbappe said in a video on a trip to Qatar in January with their club PSG.
In response, Hakimi joked: “I’m going to kick him.”
Mbappe, who will likely start on the left side, will go up against right-back Hakimi.
The latter joined PSG in 2021 from Inter Milan, having previously won the 2020/21 Serie A title under Antonio Conte.

Morocco coach has since praised 23-year-old defender Hakimi and believes his star has what it takes in stopping Mbappe.
“I have no doubt that Hakimi will be on top form to get the better of his friend,” Regragui told a news conference on Tuesday.
After securing his sides place against France, following his penalty against Spain in the last-16, Hakimi produced a penguin celebration.
Mbappe was quick to praise his teammate following Morocco’s victory, and even visited his hotel to praise him afterwards.
