Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr offer best wishes to Pele from World Cup amid concerns over Brazil legend’s health
Football stars Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior have both sent Pele their best wishes amid concerns for the Brazil legend’s health.
Brazil outlet Folha de São Paulo reported on Saturday afternoon that the former Selecao superstar – who is regarded as one of the best footballers of all time and won three World Cups with his country – has seen his health deteriorate.
There has been a huge outpouring of support from football fans around the world for the 82-year-old including from some of the sport’s current crop of elite players.
Mbappe, who is currently at the 2022 World Cup with reigning champions France, met Pele at a sponsor’s event in Paris in 2019, and the French star expressed his wishes for the icon on Twitter.
“Pray for the King Pele,” the Paris Saint-Germain star wrote, alongside a crown emoji, a praying hands emoji and the Brazil flag.
Meanwhile, current Selecao winger Vinicius Jr – who is also out in Qatar – also sent his thoughts out to his country’s hero.
Posting pictures of Brazil fans holding up banners of Pele, the Real Madrid star wrote ‘Strength, King’, followed by a king emoji.
Earlier in the week, Pele was reported to have been sent to hospital due to his condition ‘worsening’.
But his daughter stated ‘there was no emergency’ as she played down her father’s illness after he was admitted to hospital.
Pele – who scored over 1,000 goals in his career – was first diagnosed with bowel cancer back in September 2021 and has been undergoing treatment since.
