Julian Alvarez proves dreams do come true ❤️#ARG 🇦🇷 #FIFAWorldCup
Julian Alvarez once asked Lionel Messi for a photo but is now on the verge of World Cup glory with childhood hero as Argentina reach
Julian Alvarez enjoyed a night he will have spent many nights dreaming of – firing Argentina to another World Cup win alongside Lionel Messi.
The Manchester City striker has led Argentina’s forward line in their last four World Cup outings, scoring four goals in the process.
After a shock defeat to Saudi Arabia in their opening match, Argentina got their act together with wins over Mexico and Poland to ensure they finished top of their group.
Then, triumphs over Australia, the Netherlands and Croatia saw Messi and co. book their place in the final, where they will play Morocco or France on Sunday.
Alvarez was a key part of Argentina’s success having scored in the win over Poland, a key goal in the 2-1 victory over Australia and a brace in their 3-0 thrashing of Croatia.
Messi still managed to steal the show having set up Alvarez with his second thanks to a marvellous piece of skill.
But it’s unlikely Alvarez will mind that. It wasn’t long ago that the 22-year-old attacker was posing for photos with the global superstar as a child.
Now, he’s a valued teammate who is forging quite a partnership with 35-year-old Paris Saint-Germain star with the pair now just one win away from achieving immortality in their homeland.
