Joao Felix in as Aston Villa look to beat Arsenal and Manchester United to £113million man – How Unai Emery’s side could look with Atletico Madrid and Portugal star on board

Aston Villa could have a new star in their ranks soon with the January transfer window just around the corner.

Unai Emery took over as manager in late October and is already showing promising early signs of making his mark on the Premier League club, but January will see him enjoy his first chance to make significant changes.

With Villa sitting firmly in mid-table, the challenge in the New Year for Emery will be to push the club into the top half of the Premier League and maybe even push for towards the European places.

However, if they’re to do that then quality additions will need to be a must.

Reports have suggested that Aston Villa are considering an audacious move to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old forward was regarded as one of Europe’s top young players after moving to the Spanish giants for a fee of £113million in 2019, however, his form in Madrid has been a little bit patchy.

Felix has scored 33 goals and bagged 18 assists in 129 appearances for his club, but with his role in the team limited under Diego Simeone, it’s been suggested that he could look to move on.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the player, however Villa’s pulling power could make them a genuine contender to sign the player.

As well as pulling off a coup to sign Philippe Coutinho last January, Emery will be hoping that his glowing reputation in Spanish football could make them a contender to complete the surprise move.

Should Felix arrive, there’s no doubt that he’ll slot straight into Emery’s attacking line.

A player who likes to drop deep and roam between the lines, the Portugal international could compliment the out-and-out striking ability of Danny Ings, with Ollie Watkins another option to link up with him.

With Jacob Ramsey also showing his ability, it would certainly give Villa options to switch between a 4-4-2 and a more fluid 4-3-3, with Felix drifting out to the left flank.
