Ibrahima Konate reveals teasing text message from Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold after confirmation of England versus France World Cup quarter-final

Ibrahima Konate has revealed what Trent Alexander-Arnold said to him once they knew France and England would meet at the World Cup.

Les Bleus will face the Three Lions in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening, which will see the two Liverpool teammates battle it out for a spot in the last-four.

Both England and France have had impressive tournaments so far, with the two countries winning their respective groups.

Saturday’s match will be a huge test for both sides, with Konate now disclosing what Alexander-Arnold messaged him when they discovered they will soon meet at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.

Speaking in a press conference via RMC Sport, he said: “This rivalry has existed for a long time, in Under-16s I played England and it was a different match.

“This rivalry has existed since the dawn of time. Alexander-Arnold sent me a message saying ‘see you Saturday my brother’ because I am very close to him.”

The two sides have not met at the World Cup since 1982, with their last major tournament clash coming in Euro 2012.

Ahead of the match, France have received a huge boost in terms of the availability of Kylian Mbappe.

The 23-year-old was absent from a training session on Tuesday, and therefore his availability for the England match was questioned.

However, he is set to return for a closed session on Wednesday, with the World Cup’s top scorer preparing for the quarter-finals with the rest of his teammates.

Declan Rice and Callum Wilson were both absent from training for England, with the former out through illness and the latter recovering from a strain.

Whoever wins on Saturday will play either Morocco or Portugal in the last-four, with the final being played a week on Sunday as the tournament reaches its crucial stages.
