Arsenal star Thomas Partey risks wrath of Ghana fans by swapping shirts with Luis Suarez while supporters were celebrating Uruguay striker’s World Cup exit

It’s one thing to swap shirts with a player after being knocked out of a World Cup.

It’s one thing to swap shirts with a player after being knocked out of a World Cup.

But Ghana and Arsenal star Thomas Partey took things to a whole new level by exchanging strips with his country’s bitter rival, Luis Suarez.

Any hints of bitter rivalry, or Partey’s disappointment at seeing his country lose 2-0, appeared to have gone out the window.

But while the Gunners midfielder appeared to put his country’s dislike for Suarez on the backburner, Ghanaian supporters told talkSPORT they couldn’t have been more thrilled to see Suarez join them in being knocked out of the tournament on Thursday.

Despite Uruguay beating Ghana with the same scoreline they inflicted on them in 2010, the South Americans were also knocked out of the competition.

South Korea’s shock win against group winners Spain pushed Uruguay and Suarez out of the qualification spots – much to the delight of Ghana’s fans.

“I’m so happy even though they won 2-0,” one Ghana fan told talkSPORT.

“I’m happy, he’s not going anywhere, he’s going back to Uruguay. Suarez, see you in Uruguay!”

Meanwhile, another Black Stars supporter said the Uruguay striker had no right to be angry at the officials for not awarding two possible penalties, nor at Ghanian fans celebrating his early exit.

“50/50 chances Uruguay would’ve gone through, but the God of football sent Uruguay home just because of what Suarez did,” he said.

“He doesn’t owe us any apology but today we, FIFA, or the officials owe him no apology. We saw him furious after the game, why is he furious?

“Do we owe him any apology? No!”
