Erik ten Hag makes Marcus Rashford and Kylian Mbappe comparison as he confirms Manchester United will trigger one-year extension amid Paris Saint-Germain interest

Erik ten Hag has paid a huge compliment to Marcus Rashford, comparing him to France star Kylian Mbappe.

Rashford starred for England at the World Cup, getting three goals in the groups stages.

The Manchester United star was perhaps unlucky not to start in that quarter-final to France, which the Three Lions lost 2-1.

He will now have a short break before returning to club action, but will head back to Manchester knowing his manager has full faith in him.

Ten Hag said: “From the first moment, I recognised huge potential. And now to get out the potential, I believe when Marcus’s positioning is on the back of the defending line, there is almost no better player in the world.

“There is Mbappe in this moment, a type like him. But when he (Rashford)’s getting in that position, he’s great and you see he’s really improved also out of possession.”

Rashford’s current United deal runs out in the summer, but they do have an option to extend for a further year.

All signs point to the Red Devils wanting to secure his long-term future at the club, amid public interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

With his contract due to run out in the summer, PSG could start to negotiate with him in January over a free transfer move as he would have six months left on his deal.

Ten Hag confirmed talks are underway to extend his, and Diogo Dalot’s, contracts but they will also exercise those options.

Ten Hag added: “We are talking to them to extend contracts, but we have control because we have an option on all the players and we will exercise those options.”
