Walker: 'I won't roll out the red carpet in Mbappé'

The words of Kyle Walker, England defender, on the match against Mbappé in France-England, quarter-final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup

Kyle Walker , right back for the England national team, prepares to face one of the worst possible opponents on his wing. Opposed to the Manchester City full-back, in fact, in Saturday's quarter-final there will be none other than Kylian Mbappé , who has scored 5 goals in these World Cups between the group stage and the round of 16.
After being invested with a good deal of confidence by his compatriots - most recently Harry Redknapp, who stressed that few defenders in the world have his speed - Walker spoke on the subject for the first time in the press conference held today by England .

France-England, Walker's words on Mbappé

I will respect him, but I will not roll out a red carpet for him to score ," Walker said, hinting that he would do everything possible to stem " the best, or at least one of the best footballers in the world ". Then Walker continued: " It will be an inside-or-out match, we shouldn't show him excessive respect because he is playing against England, a national team that can create problems for him. And then the match will not be 'England vs Mbappé' ".

Then Walker went a little further: " My ambition is to win this World Cup ". When they remind him that in the past Mbappé has recognized in him " someone capable of standing up to me ", the defender maintains that it is " nice to hear such a thing from someone like him ". Finally he added: " I can guarantee you that in training it is difficult to mark people like Kane, Foden, Saka . We take our hats off to world champions, but football is like that, it doesn't matter who is the favourite ".
