Cristiano Ronaldo’s proposed move to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr appears to be edging closer.
The Portugal international left Manchester United last month and has been offered a whopping contract worth around €500million (£430m) to move to the Middle East.
Ronaldo shocked the footballing world after his explosive interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the Red Devils and their manager Erik ten Hag.
That resulted in Man United and Ronaldo agreeing an early termination of his contract.
As first reported by MARCA, Ronaldo has been offered a two-and-a-half year deal with Al Nassr to move to Saudi Arabia.
The contract is claimed to be worth £173million-a-year and would make the 37-year-old the highest paid athlete in the world.
Premier League giants Chelsea and former club Sporting Lisbon have both linked with a transfer, but Al Nassr are said to have shown the ‘most interest from the beginning’.
Now Marca are reporting that Ronaldo has accepted the offer and will join the Saudi side on January 1st.
However, despite the reports, it is understood Ronaldo will not reveal any decision about his future until after the World Cup.
Piers Morgan also dismissed the reports on Twitter, quoting a story about the move and writing: “Again, not true.”
Ronaldo is currently at the World Cup with Portugal, with the forward netting just once so far at this year’s tournament in Qatar.
They next play Switzerland in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Once he returns to club football, Ronaldo could well be staying on in the Middle East.
A move to Al Nassr would be his first stint outside of Europe, following his glittering career, which began with Sporting Lisbon and has yielded major trophies with Man United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
