Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed a deal to sign for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, talkSPORT understands.
The Portugal star has agreed a deal worth a reported $75million per year and will now undergo a medical before completing the deal.
Ronaldo is expected to complete the switch next week.
The 37-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Manchester United back in November.
The decision to leave by mutual consent came after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he took aim at numerous members of the club’s hierarchy, making his position at the club untenable.
One man who has been watching Ronaldo’s situation with keen interest is talkSPORT Manchester reporter Micky Gray who told the station that the move ‘doesn’t sit well’.
Asked if he’s surprised, Gray said: “I suppose I am. He’s a man who wants to keep breaking records. He wants to set records that nobody can reach and that means domestic goals around Europe, Champions League goals.
“I thought he wanted to play Champions League football so I thought he would have stayed around Europe. It’s a big surprise to me.
“Does Cristiano Ronaldo actually need the money? I think he’s probably going to play an ambassadorial role after playing a couple of years out there, but it doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve got to be completely honest.
“When you’ve had a career like him, and it’s been a phenomenal career because he’s been an unbelievable player, it’s a bit of a surprise.
“The speculation started just prior to the World Cup and then continued through the World Cup and now the pen has been put to paper.
“Look, I wish him all the best. It’s entirely up to him what he does in the latter stages of his career but I thought he might have stayed around Europe.”
