Agent Kylian Mbappe?
Kylian Mbappe met Robert Lewandowski to try and persuade him to join Paris Saint-Germain, now stars going head-to-head in France and Poland’s World Cup Round of 16 clash
Two of football’s most iconic footballers Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski are set to go head-to-head at the World Cup on Sunday.
But while they’ll be on separate teams in their round of 16 clash, the pair could have been on the same side in club football this season.
Lewandowski – who now plays his club football with Barcelona – had been seeking a move away from Bayern Munich in the summer.
But before he signed for the LaLiga giants, Paris Saint-Germain sand France superstar Mbappe tried to persuade him to sign for the Ligue 1 champions instead.
According to French outlet Le Parisien, the pair met in a secret meeting, in which Mbappe suggested Poland icon Lewandowski – who was one of PSG’s targets – join him in the French capital.
Mbappe himself had just recently turned down an offer from Real Madrid, opting to stay at PSG instead.
And it seems he took his contract extension to whole new levels as he tried to recruit the iconic striker.
But Lewandowski ultimately declined the opportunity to play with the forward, as well as the club’s other superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Mbappe will now go up against his former transfer target at the 2022 World Cup, as France go up against Poland in the Round of 16 – live on talkSPORT 2.
Lewandowski netted his first ever World Cup goal in his country’s Group C against Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile Mbappe has almost been recording new feats, becoming his country’s joint-seventh highest all-time scorer, as well as surpassing the number of World Cup goals scored by Les Bleus legend Thierry Henry.
