PUNISH Kylian Mbappe set to be fined by FIFA for refusing to speak to the media after Man of the Match award for France against Denmark at World Cup

France star Kylian Mbappe is set to receive a fine from FIFA after he refused to speak to the media after the win against Denmark.

Despite being named as the Man of the Match in their Group D win against the Danes, the Paris Saint-Germain forward opted not to speak to the world’s press, and could now be in trouble for it.

Mbappe received his first accolade of the tournament after France’s 4-1 win against Australia and, despite FIFA rules saying that Man of the Match winners must speak to the press afterwards, the 23-year-old did not do so.

He and the French Football Federation (FFF) were both informed about what would happen if the forward did it for a second time, however, this did not deter Mbappe from repeating the offence after the victory against Denmark.

As a result, ESPN are reporting that both he and the FFF are set to share the fine that will be inflicted by FIFA.

It is thought that the reason why he has not chosen to speak to the media is due to the fact that he will most likely be asked about his future at PSG.

Such questions could become a distraction for him during the World Cup despite his reported unhappiness at the French giants, but his silence towards the press will not go unpunished.

Mbappe has had a superb tournament for France so far having scored three goals in two matches.

He has now taken his World Cup goal tally to seven, making him France’s second highest goalscorer in the competition behind Just Fontaine, despite him only playing in his second tournament.

Olivier Giroud’s brace against Australia saw him equal Thierry Henry’s record of 51 goals for France, making the former the joint highest scorer in the country’s history.

However, with Mbappe already on 31 goals for his nation, he could very soon smash the record for himself.

Despite the incoming punishment, he is still set to play a key role for Les Bleus throughout the rest of this year’s tournament in Qatar as the current holders work towards retaining their crown.
