PSG provide update on Lionel Messi contract talks

Image
Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor Luis Campos has provided an update on the club's contract talks with Lionel Messi. The Argentina's current deal expires in the summer and while he has long been expected to renew his contract in the French capital, the two parties are still yet to reach an agreement. Messi has perennially been linked with a return to Barcelona while moves to MLS and Saudi Arabia have also been floated over the last few months. But Campos insists that PSG are working to tie Messi down to a new contract and talks are ongoing. "At the moment, we are in discussions with Messi for his extension. I would like to keep him in this project, I can’t hide it," Campos told  Telefoot . "We are talking at the moment to achieve this goal, and continue to have him with us." After a slow first season at PSG, Messi has returned to top form this campaign either side of a glorious World Cup-winning campaign with Argentina. Across 24 games in all competitions

Messi contract talks continue as PSG advisor Campos targets agreement

It was reported Lionel Messi was close to reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain in December, but he is yet to sign a new deal. Paris Saint-Germain remain in contract talks with Lionel Messi, with the club's football advisor Luis Campos hopeful of reaching an agreement. Messi's two-year deal with PSG is due to expire at the end of the season, and the 35-year-old has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. A return to Barcelona has also been mooted for Messi, who led Argentina to World Cup glory last year, winning the Golden Ball award following a series of talismanic displays in Qatar. While reports in December suggested he had reached an agreement in principle to stay with PSG, no announcement has been made on his future beyond this campaign. Campos has confirmed discussions are ongoing with Messi, who he hopes will renew after recording 29 goal involvements (15 goals, 14 assists) in 24 PSG appearances this season.  "I would like to have h

David de Gea uses Jose Mourinho meme to criticise Casemiro red card decision

Image
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was left perplexed by the red card shown to teammate Casemiro against Crystal Palace and expressed it in a wonderfully modern way. Casemiro was given his marching orders in the second half following a flare-up resulting from Jeffrey Schlupp’s off-the-ball challenge on Antony. It descended into a melee, during which the Brazilian grabbed Palace midfielder Will Hughes by the throat. When VAR sifted through the evidence, it was Casemiro who was deemed guilty of violent conduct and he was sent off. De Gea, though, was clearly unhappy with the decision and he took to social media after the game to express it. The Spaniard simply tweeted a meme of former Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho and his famous line of: "If I speak I am in big trouble." It wasn’t the only thing he tweeted in fairness. He also posted a much more celebratory picture with the caption “+3 [points]” in reference to the win. Unless there is a successful appeal, Casemiro will

Wolves take dig at Jurgen Klopp with hilarious Twitter post

Image
Wolves' social media team have teased Jurgen Klopp with a Twitter post following Liverpool's 3-0 loss at Molineux. The Reds were thrashed on Saturday afternoon as their miserable season continued, falling to tenth place in the Premier League table. An early own goal from Joel Matip was swiftly followed by a debut strike from Craig Dawson, before Ruben Neves finished the job at the end of a quick counter attack in the second half. Klopp's furious post-match press conference saw him dismiss Wolves' third goal out of hand, stating: "The third goal I don't count because it was the first time they passed the halfway line in the second half. The other two goals, going into a game with all the things we said during the week and before the game, then this is the start, is horrible." The people behind Wolves' social media accounts saw an opportunity to poke fun at Klopp's strange comments, posting a re-jigged final score graphic in which Neves' goal had

Jurgen Klopp hits out at journalist following Liverpool's loss at Wolves

Image
Jurgen Klopp reacted furiously to a question from the press in the aftermath of Liverpool's  3-0 thrashing by Wolves  on Saturday. The Reds fell behind early on after Joel Matip put the ball into his own net before Craig Dawson added a second with just 12 minutes on the clock. Ruben Neves later rounded off the scoring as Liverpool sunk to 10th place in the Premier League standings. Klopp was understandably in no mood to speak at length about another humbling - they have been heavily defeated in trips to Brentford, Brighton and now Wolves already in 2023 - and he took his frustration out on a journalist who had supposedly written about the team in a negative light. The reporter asked: "That has been a theme throughout the season, starting so slowly. I know you said you can't explain it but do you think it is a mentality thing? Does it make you look at how you prepare for games, the fact you start the game so slowly after a whole week on the training pitch?" Klopp quick

'What a waste of money' – Potter warns Chelsea new boys must deal with derisive chants

Image
Graham Potter's Chelsea acquired eight new players in the January transfer window, spending an estimated £295million. Graham Potter has warned Chelsea's new signings about the derision they will face from opposing fans after Fulham's supporters described Enzo Fernandez as "a waste of money". Chelsea had three of their January signings in the starting XI as they slumped to a goalless draw at home to west London rivals Fulham on Friday, leaving the Blues 10 points adrift of the Premier League's top four. Chelsea spent a reported £294.8million in the January transfer window alone, making Fernandez the Premier League's record signing on deadline day having already acquired Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto. Though Fernandez was largely impressive on his debut, the World Cup winner was taunted by Fulham's travelling fans, who directed chants of "what a waste of money" tow

Everton 1-0 Arsenal: Tarkowski dents Gunners' title bid as Dyche makes immediate impact

Image
Arsenal dropped three points in the Premier League title race as James Tarkowski's goal guided Everton to a deserved victory on Saturday. Sean Dyche's Everton reign got off to a flying start as James Tarkowski's header handed Premier League leaders Arsenal a surprise 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park. Everton looked revitalised in their first outing under the former Burnley boss, and it was two of his former Clarets players who combined for the winner – Tarkowski powering Dwight McNeil's corner home on the hour. Arsenal were kept at arm's length by Everton during an unusually disjointed display, with the deserved victory dragging the Toffees – at least temporarily – out of the relegation zone. Having suffered just their second league defeat of the season, the Gunners could see their lead at the summit cut to two points when title rivals Manchester City face Tottenham on Sunday.  Despite Everton starting strongly at a boisterous Goodison Park, Arsenal missed the first clea
